Their roadmap also looks very promising and implies Apple is ready to spend some real money in this space. #Keychain vs 1password passwordiCloud Keychain is pretty good now, and is dangerously close to being a good password manager. Some poorly formatted 2FA forms break the auto-fill function of iCloud Keychain. The second password of 1Password gives me at least protection from the kind of 4th amendment violations I'm likely to experience in the US. If someone compels me to unlock my phone via faceID, they now have access to ALL my passwords within iCloud. I'm not as comfortable with Apple's 2nd factor implementation I like the idea that my Yubikey locks my vault. Though I've gotten around this by just using a locked "note" in the notes app. No "Secure notes" that sync to iOS devices. I like to use the notes in 1 password to store secret question answers, account PINS for things like cellular providers etc. Upon trying to "change" a password, iCloud keychain sometimes "forgets" to save the new strong password it generated, and there is no easy way to get it even copied to the clipboard or anything.leaving you having to go through a "forgot" password. I mainly try to use Safari, but some sites (I'm looking at you Ubiquiti) don't work in safari.Ĭan't customize the password suggestions on poorly formatted websites that don't have the criteria enumerated in properly formatted tags. I can't even use it in Chrome on a macbook. I frankly "TRUST" Apple's security more than any other "closed" source app. I trust the longevity of Apple more than I do of the 1Password app team.Īpple has Webauthn support in their roadmap. Also, when I have my mask on (causing faceID to fail) and want to login to a site, I don't have to enter 2 passwords to retrieve one password. which makes it easier for say my wife to get into my passwords as needed and leads to less complaints from her. One less password to remember (this is a plus and a minus). #Keychain vs 1password codeWant to add TOTP to a website already stored, photograph the QR code with your phone, and it auto-adds the secret to that site's entry. Integration with Safari is excellent and it fills passwords very quickly in both websites and apps Runs natively on all my Apple devices, and password syncs are lightning quick. which btw is a great feature I hope they retain. The move was relatively easy because 1Password7 lets me export to the icloud keychain specific CSV format. Over the last day and a half, I've been experimenting with moving from 1Password to iCloud keychain.
